One of the most memorable trips of my life has to be one I took with my two best friends to Turkey. There, besides the rich history and architecture, the food was a big plus. I thoroughly enjoyed trying turkish delights, kunafehs and more with a sweet cup of cay (tea). Memories of this all came rushing back at Divan Patisserie.
This little sweets shop is located at the ground level of Dubai Mall, not too far away from Pottery Barn.
The minute you enter the space, you couldn’t help but ignore the massive chocolate fountains and the carefully prepared chocolate roses. They also offer a selection of chocolate barks, with a Turkish flair. The chef is engaging, though speaks very little English. He’s thrilled as I tell him that I’ve been to Turkey and his eyes denote a missing for his homeland. As it was my first #NomwithMe event, I was happy to have Vini with me.
We later learned that with the exception of the beverages, everything is made in Turkey and then brought over here. It made me a bit disappointed to hear that, however understandably this is how Divan Patisserie can keep its standards top-notch.
They have a bunch of different types of chocolates besides the milk, dark and white variety; they also have several truffles and lots of chocolate tahini based chocolates. They also have some slivered almonds, which an Emirati who came in for his weekly order claims his daughter loves.
They also have some savoury things, such as their cheese puff filo pastry and more. They also have a selection of biscuits and macarons.
The manager at Divan Patisserie explains to me that the macarons here are much larger than the ones elsewhere at stores such as Laduree and at a fraction of the price. I don’t particularly enjoy macarons, but I think that they do taste quite good here and are huge compared to the ones I’ve seen at other bakeries and stores so far.
Out of all the desserts I savoured that evening, I really enjoyed the chocolates, the chocolate fondue and the milk chocolate cake the most. I also enjoyed the chocolate tahini truffle.
If you have a particularly sweet tooth, Divan Patisserie might just be your pick!
